Meet Joe
Joe Bernal is a fourth-generation farmer with over 40 years of hands-on experience in agriculture. He leads his family’s farming and ranching operation, blending deep-rooted tradition with forward-thinking innovation to support long-term growth and sustainability.
Joe currently serves as Board President of the Grand Valley Users Association, where he has spent over a decade advocating for responsible water use and representing the needs of local growers. His partnership with American AgCredit began in 2019, when he expanded his operation through a farm mortgage—an experience that sparked deeper involvement as a voting member and Nominating Committee representative. He believes that with strong, committed leadership, American AgCredit will remain a vital partner in helping farmers and ranchers thrive, especially in today’s changing economic and regulatory landscape.
Joe is a recognized voice for Western agriculture, frequently featured in media interviews and industry panels. He has represented the agricultural community at the state capitol, hosted elected officials on his farm and ranch, and continues to advocate for the long-term sustainability of agriculture as essential to future generations.
Outside of work, he enjoys dirt biking, mountain biking, camping, and traveling with his wife, Mary and four children. Together, they stay active in their church and love spending time with their nine grandchildren.
